Liszt Competition Jubilee SeriesTo open its jubilee year, the Liszt Competition is presenting a special Jubilee Series. In three concerts in Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh you can hear where the first four prizewinners of the 1986 Liszt Competition have now developed to.

Gregorio Nardi (Second Prize Winner, Liszt Competition 1986)
The Italian pianist Gregorio Nardi won the Second Prize at the first Liszt Competition in 1986. Since then he has performed all over the world. In his home city of Florence, among other projects, he set up the Florence Chamber Music Festival and the FLAMEnsemble contemporary music ensemble. Gregorio opens the Liszt Competition Jubilee Series on 11 December with a programme of works by Schumann and late works by Liszt.

Michael Kieran Harvey (Fourth Prize Winner, Liszt Competition 1986)
Since winning his prize in the Liszt Competition, the Australian pianist Michael Kieran Harvey has specialised in new and improvised music, while also keeping up with his classics. On 29 January he will be presenting a programme with Beethoven’s Hammerklavier Sonata, the Piano Sonata by Humphrey Searle and of course the Liszt Sonata.

The Third Prize Winner Michael Lewin (USA) and the First Prize Winner Martyn van den Hoek together close the Liszt Competition Jubilee Series with a programme based around the music – both solo and ‘four hands’ – of Franz Liszt and his contemporary, the American pianist and composer Louis Gottschalk.
