Janina Fialkowska

The Canadian pianist Janina Fialkowska has been entrancing audiences all over the world for 40 years. In Paris she studied with Yvonne Lefébure and in New York at the Juilliard School with Sascha Gorodnitzki.  Her career was launched in 1974, when the legendary Arthur Rubinstein became her mentor after her prize-winning performance at his inaugural Master Piano Competition. She has played with top orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic. Her standing was further enhanced by a series of important premieres, including the newly discovered Third Piano Concerto of Franz Liszt with the Chicago Symphony in 1990. She frequently gives masterclasses and organises her International Piano Academy in Bavaria every year. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” recently called her “one of the Grandes Dames of piano playing.”

Besides the International Piano Competition held every three years, the Liszt Competition also hosts a number of other concerts and events.
