Competition 2026

We are excited to unveil the details for the upcoming Liszt Utrecht 2026, which will take place from January 16 to January 24 at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. In the video below, we will explain all exciting new features of this edition.

While the event revolves around Franz Liszt's music, each edition has a different composer as its theme. Following the 2022 edition, which focused on Schubert, the 2026 edition will spotlight a somewhat forgotten composer/pianist: Carl Maria von Weber. Liszt was an admirer of Von Weber’s works and performed them regular during his concerts.

The 2026 edition will highlight both original piano solo and chamber music compositions of Van Weber as well as Liszt’s transcriptions of his operatic works. Furthermore there will be a new work by Dutch composer Joey Roukens.

Liszt Utrecht stretches out over a long period of time and will consist of 5 phases:

  1. Online selection (deadline of application 1 September 2024)
  2. Live First Round (9-11 January 2025)
  3. The Academy (Summer 2025)
  4. The Festival (16-22 January 2026)
  5. The Finals (24 January 2026)

FIRST LIVE ROUND (January 9-11 2025)

For the first live round 20 pianists are invited for a performance of 40 minutes at TivoliVredenburg.

At Liszt Utrecht we are looking for professional performers who are ready to start their careers. To underline this Liszt Utrecht is offering a fee to all pianists taking part both in the live selection round as the Festival phase. This comes on top of accommodation and travel expenses.
